Environment: Firebrats are typically found in warmer environments (than you would find silverfish in), such as around boiler rooms, ovens, furnaces, hot water pipes, and hot water heater closets, preferring temperatures ranging from 90 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. You can generally rule one or the other out depending on where you are finding them. Silverfish are fast-running insects and when startled, will run around before escaping to a dark, quiet space.
